Lesvos, September 2020
Dear friend and supporter,
Regarding our current emergency operation:
As you already know, the fire in Moria camp has left 13,000 people that were living wandering around helpless at the moment. During this emergency we are trying to support the population of Moria camp as much as we can.
We have and will continue distributing food, NFIs, blankets, masks, tents as well as clothes. We also need to increase our personnel (nurse, social worker, psychologists) and have security in the camp due to some dangerously aggressive groups of locals operating against refugees and NGO people on the island. There is a lot of xenophobia on the rise of racism at the moment. This is so sad and with the Covid-19 threat things are getting even more difficult….
Any financial or donation in kind would be very welcome! Here’s a list with the current needs:
– wet wipes
– sleeping bags
– disinfection for the hands
– baby clothes
– clothes (men and women)
– basic medicines
– first aid items
– mosquito repellents
– fruit juice
– powdered milk for babies
– water packs
Also in Pikpa camp we operate as normal. At the moment we are able to support 78 residents of which 29 are children aged from 3 months to 17 years old. In Pikpa camp we also host 17 unaccompanied minors, of which 4 are already mothers with 5 kids in total. The age of the minors is from 2,5 months to 17 year olds. For the unaccompanied minors support we have developed extra educational activities decided with the contribution of the minors preferences and ideas. However these activities are now paused due to the Covid-19 new (2nd) outbreak and the emergency state that the island is on. Here are some of the activities just for you to have an idea we normally run: Greek and English language as well as computer classes, The Creative Drama Play Workshop, the Intuitive Painting Workshop, a crafting workshop, guitar and gardening lessons, human and natural sciences classes as well as to movie nights. There are also sports classes, swimming classes and zumba classes. The minors are also receiving psychological support, legal support and medical support from our team.
